According to Paul Altieri, founder and CEO of Bob’s Watches, the largest retailer of used Rolex watches, this particular watch is a barometer for whether Rolex prices will rise or fall. A year ago, a used “Panda” sold for about $50,000.
“The Rolex Daytona. One of my favorite customers once quoted – buy any Rolex model you want as long as it starts with “Date” and ends with “Tona,” says Altieri.
The “panda” dial of the Rolex Daytona has served as a clear indication of value and price in today’s secondhand market. Altieri continued, “The price of this model about a year ago peaked at almost $50,000 and then started to gradually decline to around 32,000 five months ago. Today, they are slowly recovering and are currently at around 34,000. to $35,000, which shows that the market is still very resilient.”

This is a pretty steep drop as the market has softened over the past year, but is still a long way from the current retail price of a new car, sold for less than $15,100 at Rolex. The only problem is that you can’t buy one at the retail store and the secondary market is the only game in town.
