British woman dead and grandson injured after falling off cliff in Benidorm | World News
An English woman has died and her grandson was injured after she fell off a cliff in Benidorm.
According to Spanish media, the 58-year-old woman was riding an electric scooter when the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, according to Spanish media.
Spain’s El Periodico newspaper reported that the woman was driving over the edge of a cliff in Serra Gelada Natural Park, and her 8-year-old grandson was also injured.
It’s not clear why the vehicle veered off course before falling off the cliff, in a hard-to-reach area.
Seeing her downhill, her companion – in a similar vehicle – tried to get to her side and injured himself in the attempt.
Police have opened an investigation to clarify the cause of the accident and whether the vehicle complied with all requirements.
A spokesperson for the Office for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who passed away in Spain and are in contact with local authorities.”
