Breeze Airways adds a new city as part of its 4 wider route expansion

Breeze Airways is expanding again, announcing its third new destination in less than a month.

This time, the airline’s new city, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), becomes the 35th point on Breeze’s route map.

Service began February 16, when the airline launched non-stop service to Hartford, Connecticut (BDL) and New Orleans (MSY). A day later, Breeze will make Providence (PVD) the third destination from the RDU.

Last month, the wind announced the plan to add flights to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and Florida’s Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB).

At RDU, news of Breeze’s expansion comes just 5 days after Avelo – the nation’s other emerging budget carrier – claims it will do so. Avelo’s first RDU flights will begin in early February, about two weeks before Breeze’s launch.

The airlines will not compete directly on any of the routes, although Breeze’s service to Hartford overlaps with Avelo’s direct service to New Haven. Connecticut airports are about 55 miles apart.

Elsewhere, Southwest offers non-stop seasonal service between RDU and New Orleans during the winter schedule, but the weekend-only nonstop flight is not currently scheduled to fly on the same day as Breeze.

In addition to RDU, Breeze will add non-stop service between Pittsburgh (PIT) and New Orleans. It will also resume non-stop service between Pittsburgh and Hartford on February 3.

Breeze says its new routes will allow it to capitalize on markets that are hungry for more non-stop service.

Breeze President Tom Doxey said in a statement: “Breeze is always looking for underserved routes where we can add direct flights, low fares and our Seriously Nice brand of service. . “We are excited to announce service from Raleigh-Durham, our 35th city, to our three bases in Hartford, New Orleans and Providence.”
