Winner at Stonestreet Stables ‘Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G2T) Twilight Sparkle is set to face 11 opponents in the $160,000 Mamzelle Overnight Stakes on May 14 at Churchill Downs.
The five-feathered Mamzelle, which ran through the Matt Winn Turf Course, was placed in a 9 of 11 race with a posting time of 10:11 p.m. ET. The first post for the evening pass is 6:00 pm
Speedy Twilight Gleaming, coached by Wesley Ward, scored a half-win in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Sprint race at Del Mar previous season. Daughter of naitional defense debuted when she was 3 years old last month in Palisades Stakes at Keeneland, where she was narrowly defeated in second place with 4-5th place. Tyler Gaffalione broke cohesive Saturday from post 5.
While she has a head start this year, Mysterious eyes do not do. The program finisher from Matron Stakes in 2021 (G3T) starts in 3rd for the first time for coach Todd Pletcher after her last outing was won at Belmont Park at the Stewart Manor Stakes on November 6.
Atros has experience facing Twilight Gleaming, finished fourth in last summer’s Queen Mary (G2) tournament at Royal Ascot when Twilight Gleaming finished second. Intern Rusty Arnold won his first race at Churchill last spring on the track since the turf was replaced and finished ninth in the March 26 Melody Of Colors Stakes on his debut. 2022 in this year at Gulfstream Park after being hit at the start.
