Brabus turns the Mercedes-AMG G63 into an 800-horsepower pickup

Mercedes-AMG hasn’t done anything (too) crazy with Current generation G-Class However, tuning firm Brabus is dealing with its own problems. It has once again create a pickup truck out of G63. It’s called 800 Adventure XLP Superblack with 789 hp and a set of portal shafts.

It’s a build that makes sense: pickup truck and performance SUVs are both in high demand, and the 800 Adventure is pegged at the intersection of the two. Brabus started the project by cutting out the metal sheet behind the rear seats to create a small cargo box. It added a scroll bar, perhaps for style and rigidity reasons, and it kept the G’s side-hinged rear doors; there is no bottom hinged rear door as you see, such as Ram 1500. Few carbon fiber add-ons add the finishing touch to the great look Brabus wanted to achieve. However, that’s not all: the engine breathes out thanks to a pair of carbon exhaust pipes with integrated ambient lights. We cannot make this up.

More than 200 interior parts are exclusive to this version, including leather upholstery on the seats (with fish-scale stitching) and in the footrests, several carbon fiber trim gauges, multiple switches and speaker covers. Of course, Brabus is willing to let particularly fat customers work with its design team to create a one-of-a-kind build. What you see is not necessarily what you get.

The portal shafts make the 800 Adventure taller and wider Regular production G63. They have the same concept as units Mercedes-Benz fitted to the G550 4 × 4², among other Gs and some variants of the Unimog. The task of turning these axles was the development of the G63’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo, twin-turbo V8 engine. It develops 789 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, and is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission linked to a pair of steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Brabus quotes a 0 to 62 mph time of 4.8 seconds, which is amazing considering we’re talking about a mammoth vansand top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph.

Brabus has not released information on pricing, or how many 800 Adventure XLP Superblack models it plans to build.
