Box Art Brawl: Duel – Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Hello friends, and welcome to another version of Box Art Brawl!
Last time we took a look at one of Sega Genesis’ best games, Castlevania: Bloodline (also known as Castlevania: New Generation). It was a close call and it looked like Japan might have run away with the crown, but in the end, the North American variant – with bold colors and a busier layout – won with 42% of the vote. .
This time, we’re going to watch the classic GBA racing, Super Circuit Mario Kart. Released back in 2001, it received critical acclaim for its visuals and smooth gameplay. For this week’s edition of Box Art Brawl, North America and Europe will team up against Japan, which once again uses horizontal landscapes for its GBA box art.
So let’s jailbreak!
Be sure to cast your vote in the poll below; but first, check out the box art designs yourself.
North America/Europe
So this is the one we’re probably all familiar with, right? It shows Mario relaxing in his kart, looking back at the camera with a look of, uh… Determined? Entice? We’re not sure, but it’s an outstanding visual nonetheless, even if it lacks the inclusion of other characters in the game. The blue background is beautiful and we also like the logo at the top – nice and bold.
Japan
The Japanese cover features the same image of Mario, but the landscape orientation allows a few more things to be added, including Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach and Toad in the top left corner. The white background here contrasts well with the western design and the Japanese text is really impressive. We’re glad it’s not called “Mario Kart Advance” here.
Thanks for voting! See you in the next round of Box Art Brawl.
