Both EVs offer 300-mile range in at least some versions

BMW has confirmed EPA range ratings for the i4 sedan and iX crossover SUV, most of which meet the automaker’s goals.

In the guise of starting xDrive50 all-wheel drive, the iX achieves an EPA range of 324 km with 20-inch wheels, 315 km with 22-inch wheels and 305 km with 21-inch wheels, BMW confirms in a press update kit for the car.

The single-engine rear-wheel drive BMW i4 eDrive40 is rated at 301 km with 18-inch wheels and 282 km with 19-inch wheels. The dual-motor i4 M50 is rated for 270 km with 19-inch wheels and 227 miles with 22-inch wheels.

That 227-mile figure doesn’t speak to the i4’s performance in its sportiest, best-looking form, but overall the numbers are in line with BMW’s message. When it i4 price announced In June, BMW said the sedan would have a range of up to 300 km in US spec form. The automaker said something similar about iX, so it looks like the SUV has exceeded expectations.

The range ratings also represent good performance for other i4 configurations representing a battery pack totaling 83.9 kWh and 81.5 kWh. BMW has hinted that the i4 is geared towards surpassing Tesla Model 3 in handling performance, may take precedence over maximum efficiency.
