BoeingSales and deliveries of its new planes soared last year as customers weathered the pandemic in travel demand, but the manufacturer still ends 2021 behind main rival Airbus.
Boeing has delivered 340 jets to airlines and other buyers, up from 157 in 2020, it said Tuesday. That was led in large part by the 737 Max, which regulators worldwide have shut down for nearly two years after a deadly crash in 2018 and another in 2019. Two, Airbus said it delivered 611 planes last year, up 8% from 2020.
Chicago-based Boeing recorded a total of 909 orders for the jet, more than 700 for the Max, while sales of cargo planes were another bright spot. That topped Airbus’ total 771 commercial orders in 2021. Including cancellations, the net order total was 479 but that number has since grown to 535, including accounting adjustments, plus or minus sales based on the airline’s financial position or other factors.
