BN Preview: Unbeatable heavyweights David Adeleye and Dmytro Bezus top at York Hall

QUEENSBERRY’s performance at York Hall on Friday night was topped by a 10-round bout between the undefeated heavyweights. David Adeleye and Dmytro Bezus both scored 10-0 in the match broadcast live on BT Sport.

For both, this was their first match at a distance and to prepare, Adeleye was in Florida for 5 weeks against Adam Kownacki, Carlos Negron, Andrew Tabiti, etc.

Coach Frank Greaves has joined him for the past three weeks and will have Darrell Chambers by his side in the corner at York Hall.

Chambers, who fought out of the Kronk gym under Emanuel Stewart during his 22-2 professional career, supported SugarHill Steward and was present when Adeleye fought Tyson Fury.

Adeleye also fought Anthony Joshua and after only about 30 amateur fights, he made his professional debut in December 2019.

He won nine of his first 10 games early and Friday was a great night for Adeleye, an ambitious 26-year-old from Ladbroke Grove, West London. From the outset, one of the questions was how, at 6ft 4ins and weighing around 24lbs, how would he deal with heavier opponents?

Bezus is a more serious opponent. He’s 6ft 6½in tall and weighs about 275lbs, he might be 40lbs heavier than Adeleye.

Bezus is not just a large tumor. He can move in and out – though not as fast as his feet – and has a pretty good punch.

However, Bezus didn’t always hit his weight. He was knocked out six times by Frenchman Marcel Dessaux, before being beaten in two by Nathan Gorman, despite having a 51 lbs weight advantage.

Adeleye and Bezus have not been tested on longer distances;

Both have only made it through four rounds once but not six.

Based in Latvia, Bezus is from Ukraine, where he started out as a boxer, like the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali.

Bezus won the amateur world super heavyweight Muay Thai title in 2009 and as a pro he fights on Glory, the sport’s premier platform.

Unlike Klitschkos, Bezus didn’t have an extensive amateur boxing career and didn’t make his professional debut until he turned 30, in November 2019. He celebrated his 34th birthday.order birthday a month after the battle with Adeleye.

He picked up a point against Obidjon Tokhirov (2-0-1) in Istanbul last June, while Adeleye’s best win on record was a narrow and controversial win over janitor Kamil. Sokolowski (10-21-2) and four stops by Dominik Musil (6-3), a boxer who was then bombed by Johnny Fisher.

Greaves said Friday night’s match against Bezus could play out like the one against Musil in November 2021. He expects Adeleye to concede the same weight – 31 lbs – and predicts an outcome. similar results.

He said that Adeleye plans to “get him off balance and soften him up with a stab and then start building up after three or four rounds.

“Bezus moved on, but he didn’t do it quickly. He gives you so many targets to aim for and I think he’ll be amazed at David’s fast and powerful punching.”

Musil’s game took place at York Hall and so did Adeleye’s last game, a second-half pause by Mexican Elvis Garcia (9-3) last November.

Adeleye knocked out Garcia three times in the second round after injuring him early in the session and never letting him recover.

It was talked about German boxer Adeleye Michael Wallisch – previously beaten here by rusty Joe Joyce – on the bottom card of Tyson Fury-Dereck Chisora III last December.

That didn’t happen, and Bezus looked to be a tougher test. Wallisch may have softened before his defeats, while Bezus has the mentality of a winning boxer.

He’s also tougher due to his combat experience, but as Greaves says, Bezus is there to be beaten. Against Tokhirov, Bezus advanced with a low and powerful position.

Adeleye can succeed with a similar punch, as long as he doesn’t look for it too much, as he did with Sokolowksi, who can read his intentions after being tagged in the opening round. .

Adeleye later admitted her mistake, saying: “I was sitting on my back foot to tee off. I’m not teasing.” Greaves also believes his fighter was “overcooked” that night because he spent so much time in the gym. He’s seen improvement in four fights since then.

Adeleye looked patient and polite taking out Musil and Stockport Southpaw Chris Healey (9-8) and we’ll let him do the same to Bezus and stop midway.

On a busy Queensberry night, the undefeated Mark Chamberlain and Henry Turner also entered 10 rounds.

Of the two, Chamberlain, a powerful attacking player from Portsmouth who has stopped seven of 11 so far without looking for a KO, has more difficulty.

The 24-year-old faces Vairo Lenti, the undefeated former Italian lightweight champion who has won his last three matches.

Lenti took on Gianluca Picardi 9-0 for the vacant Italian championship in April 2021 after losing three of the previous six – and resolved the sadness.

Lenti won 96-94 on all hands and deserved it.

He beat Picardi very early on and then surpassed him in the long run.

Lenti seems to do the basics well. He has a tight guard, quick jab and good engine and he is never stopped.

Chamberlain, who was ruled out of boxing last October because of a shoulder injury, had a breakthrough victory last time out, overtaking Marc Vidal, a 33-year-old former European featherweight champion, last July.

Chamberlain shook the Spaniard’s hand early, then took some himself as the proud veteran fought back before punishing him for extended periods of time.

There are several one-way rounds from the seventh round onwards.

Chamberlain clearly won and could do it again on Friday night.

Turner, a polished male tennis player who won the 2016 European Junior title and is highly regarded in the trade, meets 36-year-old Spaniard Zeus De Armas (15-2-1).

Turner had an exclamation point KO last time, flat

Argentinian Jorge Abel Bermudez (11-3) is in second place with a forehand and has stopped two of the last three games after picking up the first six points.

The 22-year-old is a batting technician, has good body movement and knocks opponents down with his back hand.

Chances are Turner will be too good for De Armas, who won the first 12 games against opponents with a losing record, but is 3-2-1 in the last 6 matches.

He was blocked twice and Turner was able to block him as well.
