BMW and Rimac cooperate to produce high-voltage EV batteries

BMW and Rimac have just announced a long-term partnership in which Rimac will supply high-voltage batteries for the German automaker’s electric vehicles. “The two companies’ respective strengths and expertise complement each other effectively,” BMW said in the press release.

BMW went on to say that in addition to the new strategic partnership, it is also getting ready to launch its sixth generation eDrive technology, which will deliver another significant step forward in all customer-related attributes. such as operating range and charging time.

In a separate release, Rimac, the product makes up Nevera supercar, said it will dedicate a “significant portion” of the Rimac Facility near Zagreb, Croatia to the production of advanced battery systems for future BMW electric vehicles. It goes on to say that the collaboration “represents the largest and most ambitious project the company has undertaken to date”.

“The respective strengths and expertise of the two companies complement each other effectively. The BMW Group’s electrification strategy aims to further build on its leading position in premium electric mobility. The BMW Group brings its expertise in electric powertrains and batteries accumulated over more than 15 years to the partnership,” both companies stated in their respective press releases.

Further details of the partnership, including its scope and content, will be revealed at a later stage, so it is not yet known whether high-voltage batteries produced by Rimac will be fitted to Neue models BMW’s Klasse or not.
