Blind dog abandoned on a park bench leaves legacy to give other unwanted puppies love

Have you heard the story about Poly? She was a three-year-old bull, completely blind, someone left scared and alone on a park bench. Apparently she just had a puppy, although none have been found. Santa Barbara County Animal Services took her out on the street but knew she needed more specialized care so they contacted Foreverhome Pet Rescue, Inc.a pet rescue team based in Los Angeles, and asked them to bring her in.

What they knew about her from the start was that she wasn’t treated well. In addition to being blind, Poly has many problems including a grade 4/6 heart murmur, swollen mammary glands, enlarged lymph nodes (possibly cancerous), and patchy hair.

Or get someone who cares enough for her to cover up her patchy skin (in this case, with a cute duck costume!) and put on a tu-tu, just for fun .

She has amazing manners – barks when she needs to go outside to potty – and seems to like dogs and people.

Of course, they are meeting her medical needs. They’re working to make her skin clean and she’s cancer free!

The rescue has received numerous donations from well-wishers to help with Poly’s medical costs, which are rapidly increasing. In fact, Foreverhome Rescue explained to iHeartDogs.com that “Often times a shelter dog requesting these types of diagnoses (and/or surgeries) will scare off a small rescue organization with the bills of denial. Veterinarians can be very large. We are very fortunate that Poly’s story has spread around the world and people have donated to cover the diagnosis.”

And now Poly, and the rescue, is sending it forward.

“Because Poly has received so much media attention, we decided to establish a ‘Poly Foundation’ – our intention is to continue donating on Poly’s behalf (for the potential surgery she she may need) and any money in excess of her needs will be distributed to other small rescue organizations whose dogs need expensive diagnostics. Poly wants to share his ‘my phamus’ with other dogs. “

Update: Foreverhome Pet Rescue gave their all to Poly, but despite their care, in April 2016 they announced that Poly had sadly passed away.
