The former US representative to the 16th congress of Texas confronted Governor Abbott, while it is unclear exactly what was said, CNN reports Beto could be heard saying,
“Governor Abbott, I have to say something,” as he approached the stage in Uvalde. “The time to stop the next shooting is now, and you don’t have to do anything. You said this is unpredictable. This was completely predictable.”
Several public officials were seated next to Governor Abbott, including Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Texas Republican Lieutenant General Dan Patrick. In the clip going viral online, Lieutenant General Patrick is heard saying to Beto, “You’re lost and confused.” However, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin was unprofessional with his answer.
He used harsh words and shouted at Beto, “I can’t believe the sick bastard would come to an agreement like this to bring up a political issue.” Beto put his foot on Governor Abbott’s neck. Last night, in the wake of the shooting tragedy, he called out to the Governor on Twitter about his lack of stricter gun laws.
“The time to stop Uvalde is right after Sandy Hook. After Santa Fe High. After El Paso. Instead, Abbott made it easier to carry a gun in public. The time to stop the next carnage is now,” he tweeted. Beto doesn’t stop there.
He pleaded with the Governor to move the ongoing NRA convention this weekend in another tweet. It reads,
“Governor Abbott, if you have any courtesy, you will immediately withdraw from the NRA conference this weekend and urge them to hold it anywhere but Texas.”
