Belgium’s Malinois saves humans from mountain lions but suffers terrifying skull fractures
There are many ways to be cautious with wildlife, but sometimes, you don’t have the opportunity to think or prepare. A woman and her dog enjoy hiking together, but when a mountain lion attacks them, they must act quickly. First, a giant cat reached out to the woman, but her dog refused to let her loved one die.
Thanks to the bravery of the puppy, the woman survived the tragic incident. However, the hero dog was later out of danger due to a broken skull and other injuries. The dog is currently being hailed as a hero and people around the world are raising money to help her heal.
Belgian Malinois Save the day
Erin Wilson and her Belgian Malinois named Eva were walking along the Trinity River in northern California when their lives were threatened. Eva was only yards from her lease when a mountain lion lunged at Wilson. The feral cat scratched his shoulder through his coat, so Wilson called Eva. Wilson’s truck is still in sight, but the mountain lion won’t leave.
The 55-pound dog ran at full speed toward the mountain lion and crashed into it. The mountain lion turned his attention to Eva, but the dog didn’t stand a chance. In the end, the mountain lion stuck his teeth into Eva’s head and refused to let go.
“They were fighting for a few seconds, and then I heard her start to cry,” Wilson said. “That’s when the cat clung to her skull.”

Wilson tried everything to get the mountain lion to let go. She used rocks, sticks and even her fists to hit the cat, but it was able to defend itself with its hind paws. So Wilson ran back to his truck to get a tire iron to attack the mountain lion. She also asked a driver named Sharon Houston for help.
After Wilson hit the mountain lion a few more times, it finally let go of Eva. Houston then sprayed pepper spray on the cat causing it to run away.
Heroes also need to be saved
At first, Eva seemed fine, but when Wilson took a closer look, she noticed puncture wounds on her face and blood coming out of her mouth. So she rushed her baby to the emergency vet, an hour and a half away. It was the most stressful trip of Wilson’s life. Eva had a seizure midway through which Wilson worried that the dog wouldn’t make it.
But fortunately, the couple made it to the vet, where the staff found a lot of wounds. Eva suffered two skull fractures, a perforated skull, severe swelling near her eyes, and multiple scratches. She has a long way to go to recover, but the vets seem optimistic she will survive.
“My dog is my hero and I owe him my life,” Wilson said. “She’s really into stuffed animals so we’re going to buy her a bunch of stuff. We will prepare her a delicious steak dinner. She will get all kinds of treats for a while. “
Despite everything looking for this heroic pooch, her vet bills are adding up fast. So Wilson started a GoFundMe to raise money for the Eva. So far, people have donated more than twice the donation goal, which is $7,500.
