Basketball duke arrested: Coach K’s nephew Paolo Banchero faces DWI-related charges



Two Duke men’s basketball players face charges after being arrested on suspicion of driving while on a Sunday morning.

The two players involved are Michael Savarino, grandson of coach Mike Krzyzewski, and freshman star Paolo Banchero. Savarino has been charged with DWI, drunk driving under the age of 21 and violation of a stop sign. Banchero faced charges of aiding and abetting the DWI, but was released at the traffic stop.

The incident was first reported by The (Raleigh) News & Observer on Tuesday.

According to reports, Savarino was stopped for a stop sign violation at 1.10am on Sunday and showed signs of impaired function. After going to the doctor, Savarino had a blood alcohol level of 0.8.

He is due in court on December 9, while Banchero is scheduled to appear in court on December 8.
