Barry McGuigan Takes Out Joshua-Usyk 2: “This Is His Last Chance”
With Oleksandr Usyk – Anthony Joshua The rematch takes place on August 20Irish boxing legend turned promoter Barry McGuigan gave his thoughts on their first bout and the tactics needed for Joshua to become a three-time heavyweight champion.
Talking to Seconds outWhen asked about the heavyweight rematch, the former featherweight king said:
“The reality is there’s a lot of that in Joshua’s head.”
“He was knocked down; he was injured and knocked down by Andy Ruiz. “
“They will be the ones who will say he has never been the same since. He had feelings of anxiety about him, which I think is clearer now than ever. “
McGuigan praised Joshua’s move to coach Robert Garcia’s services:
“Robert Garcia is a very good coach.”
“I know he made a lot of technical savings for the final battle, which was a heavy load of codswallop.”
“Garcia won’t put up with it, he’ll get him back in shape and get him into proper condition.”
The Irishman isn’t sure what Joshua’s options are if he suffers another crushing defeat to Usyk:
“You have to look at it, like in fact, it’s his last chance”
“If he is defeated or even stopped in this fight, where will he go from there?”
McGuigan went on to lay out the tactics he would use for Joshua to win over Saudi Arabia:
“He has the physicality to win it. He has to get his tactics right and apply those tactics. “
“In my mind just go and walk the guy down. Using a solid job, hit him hard in the body then raise your shots as the fight continues. “
“Just crush him down, walk him down, use your physical strength.”
“That’s how he’s going to win the fight, nothing else.”
“It’s not that complicated.”
