BAIC BJ40 Plus – 2.0T off-road SUV, estimated price RM180-200k
Last month, Beijing Automobile Group (BAIC) previewed BJ40 Plus in Malaysia, with the Chinese off-road SUV set to be sold here first as a fully imported CBU model, and later as a CKD Form when local production begins at EP Manufacturing Plant (EPMB) in Melaka at the end of the year.
Pricing has not been disclosed, but is expected to be to be done sometime this month – the company had previously said that the expected price would be between RM180,000 and above RM190,000.
Only one variant of the BJ40 Plus will be sold here, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 221 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and Borg-Warner part-time four-wheel drive, which offers three modes, including 2H/2L/4L.
Measuring 4,645 mm long, 1,925 mm wide and 1,871 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,745 mm, this body-on-frame model is the perfect choice if you like spaciousness. Jeep Wrangler, but prefer a cheaper option. The undertones of the latter are clear, led by novelties such as a removable top cover and removable doors.
Standard equipment on the BJ40 Plus includes LED headlights/daytime running lights, LED combination taillights, off-road tow hooks, leather upholstery, four-way power driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control.
The BJ40 Plus also gets a 12.3-inch LCD dashboard and a 10-inch central touchscreen, as well as ambient lighting and a six-speaker audio system. Other interior specs include two USB ports and a rearview camera. The boot has a capacity of 532 liters, which can be expanded to 965 liters with the rear seats folded.
