Debuted at last year’s DEMA Showbackscatter Small Flash 2—sequel to the hugely popular Mini Flash—has taken the world by storm in the world of underwater macro photography. The arrival of the MF-2 sees upgrades to existing functionality as well as important new features: upgraded focus lamp (from 500 to 1,000 lumens), upgraded battery (from 18650 to battery 21700), which adds TTL Auto Flash Exposure for Olympus cameras, a new High Speed Sync (HSS) mode, and last but not least the ability to remotely trigger an MF- 2 outside the camera with the attached MF-2—and even change the power level of the camera strobe remotely.
With the Mini Flash 2 becoming a rather complicated strobe, Backscatter predicted that people will likely need a little help setting up the MF-2 with their camera and using the strobe in various situations. shooting situations vary, so they’re working hard to create a flash that’s handy. how-to guide for new users. Powered by Media Producer Robin Dodd, the amazing new video covers everything TG-6 shooters need to know about hooking up and shooting with the MF-2 (or two)—from close-up shots from simple to creative work using backlighting and side lighting, stealth photography and color filters. Robin offers some helpful “pro tips” along the way, and also highlights the different accessories you can add to your system for the ultimate effect. The video nicely illustrates how Backscatter has managed to create a strobe light with advanced features that are still easy to use.
