In the field of fashion, hit pieces often find their roots in unexpected corners, though there’s obviously still gas in them. Y2K Aesthetics gave birth to another trend. Cue children’s t-shirt, has won the set style in recent weeks. But what exactly constitutes a children’s tee?
Basically, kids t-shirts are cut T-shirt often tight (but not always). These pint-size pieces are shorter in length, often ending just above the waist, and are reminiscent of t-shirts popular in the early 2000s—the kind worn by Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, often paired with low-rise jeans and off-the-shoulder skirts. In the past, kids’ t-shirts often featured playful graphics, textures, and vibrant colors, although the 2023 model looks a bit more subtle than the crops that first dominated my wardrobe. .
This week, as I added a few cute cropped t-shirts to my latest Zara order, I realized I was unwittingly influenced to do so. Maybe on Instagram or TikTok, I was opened up to the fact that kids t-shirts are absolutely everywhere now, and their presence is affecting the entire Who What Wear group. When I shared my observations on our team Slack channel, a flood of messages poured in; “So that’s why I suddenly want to buy one!”, “I heard Skims kids t-shirts are great”and meI tried shrinking an old t-shirt this week” are just some of the exchanges we’ve shared.
Children’s t-shirts are still the basics; Wardrobe platforms work with a significant number of other clothes, so they’re pretty open to any style interpretation you see fit.
