Baaeed was a toast during the 32nd Cartier Racing Awards when crowned Horse of the Year and Older Horse of the Year at the Dorchester Hotel in London on 9 November.
Retired son of star sea was the first horse owned by Shadwell to receive the prestigious Horse of the Year award after a stellar season with four wins in Group 1.
Baaeed, who was coached by William Haggas, beat tough competition to claim the main prize, with the winner of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) Alpinista Gold Cup (G1) hero Kypriot and prolific sprinters Highfield Princess also nominated.
Baaeed also overcame Alpinista for the older horse title, where his QIPCO Champion Stakes (G1) conqueror Bay Bridge and versatile Kinross also received nominations.
Prize for 3-year-old pony that went the way of Vadeni , who brought Aga Khan’s colors to success in the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club (G1) and Coral-Eclipse Stakes (G1) before finishing second in the Arc. Other nominees are Cazoo Derby In Memory of Lester Piggott (G1) winners Desert Crown and the Godolphins Coroebus and Modern game .
Inspiral achieved a rare feat of following her award last year with success in the 3-year-old film category. Highfield Princess was named sprinter of the year after a trio of group 1 wins, including Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes (G1). She won Kinross, Minzaal and the Australian sprinter Nature strip .
Unsurprisingly, Kyprios was awarded the player of the year award after an unbeaten streak of four wins in Group 1. The 4-year-old kid trained by Aidan O’Brien dominated a category also Stradivarius , really painted and winner Cazoo St Leger (G1) Eldar Eldarov .
Team Coolmore by Derrick Smith, Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Westerberg, owners of Kyprios, also won the prize for the 2-year-old pony with black beard , who won twice at the group 1 level before retiring. The recipient of the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Commendation Award for 2022 is owner/raider Kirsten Rausing of Alpinista.
