It’s been three long years since the Australian Senior Dusty Championships were held, so the competitors had to work hard to make a comeback and among them 2002 was the year for the sport to come back. Our sports are back to normal. Over the past two years, both Titles have been canceled due to Covid-19 and border closures.

Saturday, competitors lined up at the gate early in the morning. Some tremors come as impending showers are blowing in off the Pacific Ocean. However, after a few sprinkles early in the morning, everything brightened up.

As usual, North Brisbane brought in very experienced officials of the day with Denise Dall (Staff) and Mark Herfoss (Clerical of course) running the day. The program for the weekend is practice and three rounds for Saturday and the fourth round remaining, rematch and final on Sunday morning.

The race was exciting with the riders putting all their energy into the lap, the intensity of which indicated there were a number of incidents requiring medical assistance, which caused a number of delays on Saturday. The racing team is always ready to use any time to do some additional prep work for the track.

All classes hotly debated some sensational races on the show. It was amazing to see so many women competing, not only in their gender specific classes, but mixed with men in open classes.

The weather was a bit overcast and cooler for Sunday’s race with the fourth and re-run. The track preparation team did a great job ensuring the riders were in optimal conditions for racing. The race was fast and fierce with riders jostling to secure their spot in the finals.

Unfortunately, current title holder Matt Griffiths crashed the valve in his heat fourth round and had to retire with an unreasonable push to return to the pit where he would sit out the rest. of the day.

It’s great to see some of the riders who ran into trouble on Saturday’s track getting back on track on Sunday to watch the Titles finale. Robert Nolan and April Geromboux crashed late on Saturday but that didn’t stop April from being discharged from the hospital and back on track to support her fellow riders.

The first final was the Sidecars championship, the doors slid and local racers Troy Pritchard and Ethan Wade got their shot in the hole, Jarred Marko/Shaun Fuller made a big swerve off the line but retained control, however lost its position in the process. Pritchard / Wade held the lead throughout the checkered path.

Brook and Weale go into it

In Pro MX, Cysham Weale got off to an incredible start and came in for the first hit with Brook in hot pursuit, followed by Dale Borlase and Ben Montgomery. Brook, known as ‘The Hidden One’, is a master tactician and when he entered T3, he teamed up with Weale before making a pass on T4’s exit. In checkers, it’s Brook, Weale, Borlase, Qualichefski and Dall while Montgomery makes the top five.

The 450 Pro Open champion is from the Australian Dirt Tracks. In the beginning, Harry Maxwell got the header on turn 1 but it was Jarred Brook’s turn out that made it past the inner ring and then led all the way to the opener.

Cyshan Weale gets up inside Maxwell through the dog’s leg and holds P2 until the flag. Round 3 saw Seth Qualichefski overtake Maxwell on turn 2 for P3. Brook and Weale looked comfortable when they finished Qualichefski in P3.

The final event of the day was the ATV Open Championship Finals, with Matt Griffiths off the track, his brother Josh stepping up and leading from gate to finish line. John Sherlock in 2nd and Ross Rizzo in 3rd.

The 2022 Premium Waterslide Championship was an event that went well and luckily the weather played its part and lost no time in the slow rain that is common during these days. recent years. Thanks to North Brisbane to organize events.

Dirt Track is so strong in Australia and has long been an incubator for road racing, you don’t have to look far past, present or future to see the birth of Dirt Track and its influence. it’s for motorcycle races in Australia.
