2022 Australian Junior Dirt Track

Last weekend, the Australian Children’s Cycling Tournament was held at the North Brisbane Kids Motorcycle Club in Banyo Brisbane.

There have been no Junior titles held since 2019 and sadly some of the top riders have ceased to be competitive in the Junior categories.

North Brisbane hosted the Australian Dirt Track Senior titles in May, so the club has practiced well in preparing and organizing major events. The track and the surrounding area look the perfect canvas for the arrival of Australia’s top dirt track trailblazers.

The program includes practice and three full rounds taking place on Saturday with Round Four, replay and final on Sunday.

Drivers and support teams began arriving at the track on Friday from midday, claiming their ownership of the best pit locations with many people checking the track.

With heavy rainfall over the past few months, the track has held up to the weather very well, while track preparations were made on Friday afternoon to be ready for an early start on Saturday.

The weather gods ended up delivering some great weather for both Saturday and Sunday, especially since last weekend the event was postponed due to very unfavorable forecasts.

The first three laps were a success on Saturday with a few minor track problems but no significant injuries. It is clear that competition will be fierce for Sunday’s final.

Some standout performances over the weekend included Rory McQualter joining two of the senior classes, waving the flag for the Mike Hatchers Junior Motor Club, which has produced several Australian champions.

Viv Muddle and Jake Paige had some excellent fights in the 65 cc and 85 cc divisions. Vivi takes home the silverware in both classes with Jake running.

Jake’s brother Bodie is currently racing in the American Flat Track race in the US, and Jake is ready to go anything on two wheels, racing in the FIM MiniGP in Sydney a few months ago. Vivi is currently the Australian double champion.

This event also attracted excellent representatives from the girls with many competitions in many different categories.

The last event of the days was the much-anticipated 200 cc to 250 cc 4/13-U16 – In the end, the thrill was high with all competitors giving their all.

It took three starts to get a clean first round without problems. The first two starts are red flagged.

Again Mark Herfoss is the senior MA official as manager and Andrew Brook is the Secretary of the course.

A large number of the club’s senior racers have volunteered their time to help juniors at the starting gate, assist riders, sweep gates and much more. It’s great to see these seniors giving to the sport.
