Arrested after middle school student overdosed


Two students from a Colorado high school were taken to the hospital after allegedly eating “magic mushrooms.” The students are believed to have purchased the substance from 21-year-old Damian Lee Solano, according to PEOPLE.

Details about high school student overdose in Colorado

Authorities reported that four Colorado high school students, ages 12 to 16, allegedly purchased mushrooms from Damian Lee Solano.

On September 24, two middle school students went to the hospital after meeting Solano in the parking lot of a grocery store, according to PEOPLE.

They then provide law enforcement with a general description of the seller and detailed information about his vehicle.

Soon after, authorities booked Damian Lee Solano, 21, into the El Paso County Jail, where he is still expected to post $500,000 bail.

Per PEOPLE, Solano faces four felony counts of drug distribution, one felony count of attempted sale and four misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Christine O’Brien, spokesperson for Harrison School District 2, confirmed that the two affected students were treated and returned home. The district is helping them transition back to normal life.

“We appreciate the diligence of our education staff, students and families who immediately reported concerns like these,” O’Brien wrote in an email to The Gazette. .

The parents of one of the students helped detectives recover the mushrooms. In addition, they also gave the police the student’s phone to contact the seller.

From there, a detective pretended to be a student and arranged a meeting with Solano for an undercover sale.

When authorities confronted and arrested Damian Solano, he allegedly had approximately 2 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms.

PEOPLE revealed that Solano will make his first appearance in El Paso County Court on October 4, as noted in his online court records.

Furthermore, it has not been confirmed whether he currently has a lawyer or not.
