Photography is also possibly the most equipment-intensive pastime on the planet, meaning that while there is some incredible gear available for purchase, there’s also plenty to waste your money on. Is this one of the worst photography items you’ve ever seen?
I am not a hasty buyer by any means. When I realize that I want something, I tend to do an extensive research model followed by even more in-depth blanking. So when I finally get to the stage where I’m ready to shell out my hard-earned money, I’m generally confident that I won’t run into a buyer’s regret anytime soon. However, I have made some terrible purchases over the years. I think my worst thing would be to buy a camera bag that can hold all my lenses. It has more pockets and nooks than a network of underground tunnels. But as soon as I received it, I knew I was crammed. After installing all the tools, I couldn’t stagger out the door because it was too heavy. And why do I need every lens on a day trip? I’ve made a few other embarrassing purchases that I don’t want to own.
And that brings us to this amazing video by Henry Turner in which he shares his seven silliest photography purchases. It’s important to note that from the outset, it’s difficult for Turner to say that it’s a purely subjective list that could be different for everyone. One of the coolest purchases he talks about is the ND grad filter. The reason he says it’s a terrible purchase is that you can do the same work in post or in-camera via offset photography. It’s a hot topic these days with all the advancements in AI suggesting that the day may come when photography is more than simply manipulating data on software. He also has a few other good ones.
