Are dogs allowed at Walgreens?
As the second-largest pharmacy chain in the United States, Walgreens is a favorite for both prescription and convenience items, photography needs, and beauty products. But are dogs allowed at Walgreens with you on your shopping trip?
Dogs are not allowed in Walgreens. Similar to a convenience store like 7-Eleven Due to the food aisles being regulated similarly to full-size grocery stores because of the food in the store, Walgreens cannot allow dogs in the store because of the food aisle.

Can I bring a service dog to Walgreens?
Yes, a trained service dog necessary to assist you is permitted by law to enter any Walgreens store. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The ADA explains, “Service animals are defined as dogs that are specifically trained to work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such jobs or duties include instructing the blind, warning the deaf, pulling wheelchairs, warning and protecting people who are having a seizure, reminding the mentally ill to take their prescription medication, and people with nervous tension. Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other tasks. Service animals are working animals, not pets.”
Emotional support dogs do not have the same rights as service dogs. Also, therapy dogs are not service dogs.
Service dogs to Walgreens are not required to wear special service dog vests, straps, or tags, but store employees have the right to ask you two questions about your service dog:
- whether a service animal is needed because the person has a disability
- the type of work or task for which service animals are trained to perform
If your dog is not a trained service dog, do not try to misrepresent your dog as a service dog. Depending on where you live, misrepresent your dog as a service dog can be fined up to $1000.
