Arc Raiders is a co-op sci-fi robot shooter coming out next year

I almost missed the trailer for Arc Raiders in The Game Awards, but quickly found the tab it was playing as soon as I listened to Robyn’s Dancing On My Own. What a great tune for a gameplay trailer! Arc Raiders looks good – it’s a free-to-play third-person shooter where you and a team of friends battle evil cyborgs and it’s coming out in 2022. Check out the video below ( if only to hear a proper beep).

Arc Raiders is the first game from developer Embark Studios, founded by former EA executive Patrick Söderlund (notably, he was CEO of Dice, who produced Battlefield). In it, you will join a group of Raiders and battle Arc, nasty bots from space.

From the look and feel of the trailer, we’ll be scavenging and shooting our way past lots of drones in the vast alien landscape. I see a lot of concrete and a lot of desert, which is a bit boring for a new sci-fi genre. I’d like to see a little more color and weirdness, though I’ll reserve judgment until closer to Arc’s release date.

Game website provides a bit of information about the characters we will play and the enemies we will face. I’m a huge fan of Rollerbot, who has been described as “an evil ball of pain”. And yes, it looks like a metal ball with excess pieces.

At the very least, I think this would be a good game to add to my “coming co-op games to join” list. The Arc Raiders Are Heading Sauna and Epic game store, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, sometime next year.

We’re staying up late covering the upcoming PC game from tonight’s lavish marketing: our hit Game Award tag everything.
