Garcia, a former IBF featherweight champion, has made a name for himself as a coach in the US since hanging up his gloves in 2001. The 47-year-old’s career has blossomed and seen him coach the likes of Nonito Donaire, Mikey Garcia, Joan Guzman, Marcos Maidana, Brandon Rios and more. Given the boxer style he’s worked with, it’s clear Joshua would choose a more aggressive approach in rematch with the Ukrainians.
Nine months ago, with longtime trainer Robert McCracken and plenty of other vocalists by his side, ‘AJ’ tried to hit the boxer and was said to want to. Usyk, one of the best technicians of the modern era, comfortably won on points and almost stopped Brit in the final round.
With Garcia’s lead, the old Joshua who once dominated opponents in terms of size, strength, and power would become unsettled, outnumbered, and ultimately stopped the champion.
