Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois set to break attendance records

Anthony Joshua’s fight with Daniel Dubois on September 21 could set a new record for UK boxing attendance after a request to expand capacity at Wembley Stadium was approved.

The April 2021 fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte currently holds the record after 94,000 people turned up at Wembley that night.

Riyadh Season tickets featuring Joshua and Dubois have been declared sold out after the first 90,000 tickets were sold out.

But Turki Al-Alshikh confirmed that an application for a further 6,000 tickets has now been approved, paving the way for a new record of 96,000 tickets.

Al-Alshikh confirmed that additional tickets will go on sale at midday on Friday. He posted on X: “Our request is to expand the capacity for the record boxing crowd at Wembley Stadium for the Joshua vs. Dubois fight at #RiyadhSeasonCard The Wembley version has been approved. Tickets go on sale Friday at 12pm UK time.”

The first fight will be Dubois’ first defence of his IBF title, after he defeated Filip Hrgovic to win the interim belt in Saudi Arabia in June.

He was upgraded to full champion after it became clear that former champion Oleksandr Usyk would not face Dubois. Instead, Usyk will face Tyson Fury in their contracted rematch in December.

Dubois has yet to box at Wembley Stadium but his opponent Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion, is no stranger to boxing under the dome, having knocked out both Alexander Povetkin and Wladimir Klitschko there. Joshua has also beaten Joseph Parker and Carlos Takam in front of a huge crowd at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

The 34-year-old is currently 28-3 with 25 knockouts and is on a four-fight winning streak since his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk in August 2022.

Dubois, meanwhile, has a 21-2 record and is in his best form after back-to-back close-range wins over Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic since losing to Usyk in August 2023.
