The “great resignation” may be about to evaporate again in the new year.
Kathryn Minshew, co-founder and CEO of career website The Muse, is predicting another wave in January and then again as companies begin to finalize plans to return to the office their. Now, she believes it could be in the spring.
There are already signs that the Great Resignation, or what some call the “Great Reformation,” has slowed. Percentage of people who quit their jobs declined in October, according to the most recent data available from the US Department of Labor.
Above all, the holiday season is when many people pause on the job hunt, Minshew said. They may also have found year-end bonuses.

However, it is also a time when people look back on their lives and think about what they could have done differently in the new year.
“Changing jobs is one of the most popular and least personally disruptive ways you can make a big life change,” she says.
The good news is that January and February are the times when companies with calendar year budgets tend to post new positions.
Here’s how you can get ready to say “I’m leaving” and find a new one.
Check your resume

Before you read your resume, make a list of your top 5 to 10 career accomplishments. Compare that to what’s actually in your document, says workplace strategist Holland Haiis.
Also, see how any of your descriptions have changed and whether any new vocabulary is now used to describe your role.
Update your LinkedIn profile
Employers and potential employers will review your LinkedIn profile, so make sure it matches your resume and is complete so it shows up in search results, Haiis speak.
Pay attention to your title. A saying that being unemployed or actively looking for opportunities won’t spark anyone’s imagination, she said.
“What you want to think about is what defines and describes what you do, what you are looking for, and the value you can bring to the organization,” Haiis said.
Know your worth
Look back on the past year and note your key achievements, Minshew says. She likes to keep a card in her inbox of any good feedback she gets, so going back and checking in is easy.
Also, think about what makes you a great asset to the organization and start practicing how to overcome that. This is especially important for women, who have been taught not to brag, Haiis said.
“This is not bragging,” she said. “This is your personal brand.
“Feeling comfortable with who you are and what you’ve achieved is different from bragging.”
Print job description
When you see a job you’d like to apply for, print out a description and highlight the key skills employers are looking for in a candidate. Then think about where you can insert that language into your cover letter and resume, Minshew suggests.
“The more you can truly reflect what someone is asking for with what you have to offer, the more likely you are to pass the automatic screening of the applicant tracking system, but also to caught the eye of an interviewer,” she said.

Think of the people who have helped you over the past year, and use the holidays as a time to reconnect and say thank you.
“This is another great way to get people back on the radar and both show sincere appreciation and top-notch interest in someone,” says Minshew.
Network
The holiday season means social gatherings and parties, a chance to chat with people who can help you with your search.
“Don’t be afraid to follow up with someone you’ve met and say, ‘I really enjoyed our conversation the night before; I want to continue that conversation. You have time to go out for coffee next year. new?’ Minshew suggested.
