Another electric convertible not limited to the US
MG is returning to its roots with an electric sports car, but it’s not coming to the US
Unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show, the MG Cyberster is a small two-seat convertible similar to the sports cars that popularized the British marque in its glory days from the 1940s to the 1960s. 1960. However, Cyberster is electric. It is also equipped with scissor doors commonly found on more expensive supercars.

Currently, the Cyberster is expected to go on sale in China and Europe by 2024. brand name MG has been under the control of China’s largest auto manufacturer, SAIC, which is state-owned, for more than 15 years. Given the current commercial environment, it seems unlikely that a state-owned automaker like SAIC could be one of the first automakers from China, if any, to sell its vehicles in China. America
These markets will have a single-engine rear-wheel drive version with around 309 hp and a two-engine all-wheel drive version with around 536 hp. The weight limit of 4,078 pounds for the base single-engine model and 4,376 pounds for the dual-engine model will far exceed the Original Tesla Roadster.
MG Cyberster 2024
MG has been offering electric vehicles with other body styles for several years now. Electric Roadster has been in the works since 2018 or earlier — with the Mazda MX-5 Miata at least partly the inspiration, along with, almost certainly, models like the MGB, one of the iconic sports cars statue from MG’s heyday. However, the Cyberster’s massive weight means it will be a different beast from those light sports cars.
The Cyberster is another small electric convertible not intended for the US market. The Mini Cooper SE convertible is a limited production practice, but only for Europe. Volkswagen considered an electric convertibleshows renders for 2021. However, those renders are based on the VW ID.3 hatchback not sold in the US, making it less likely that a production version will be offered here.
