An electric car may sound like something, but does it have to be an internal combustion engine?
The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona makes a muscle car electrifying. And it has a sophisticated sound generator to simulate the noise of a V-8 exhaust, which the new Charger doesn’t have.

This artificial exhaust system uses transducers under the body of the car to create a sound that is then amplified by a resonator, similar to the resonator used in a muffler, to change the sound, which is then transmitted out of the car. The system also takes into account speed and control inputs such as steering and pedaling force. This creates a reasonable replica of V-8 Exhaust Noteas demonstrated in a new video released by Dodge.
The music in the video is for the Charger Daytona R/T and Charger Daytona Scat Pack models, which will debut later this year as the first electric Charger variants. Dodge may create a different soundtrack for a higher-performance model slated to debut later, rumored to be called the SRT Banshee.
Sound levels can also vary based on driving mode. Sport mode provides a medium output, while Drag, Drift, Donut, and Track make it louder. Stealth mode is also available for those who want to drive quietly without the artificial noise of a V-8 engine.
