American Airlines pilot has an unsettling suggestion that could make passengers sigh

You’ve avoided the customer service and public relations nightmare that gave one of your biggest competitors a headache.

Then your staff comes to tell you that you can be windy. Then, with that comes the public speaking about your supposed windfall.

This may be an inner thought currently enjoyed by American Airlines Chief Executive Officer Robert Isom.

You see, while he praised the excellence of the Americans, his pilots made a disturbing proposition.

EQUAL report by air news anchor JohnNYC, a Philadelphia-based association of American Airlines pilots thought that newer pilots at American — those with five years of experience or less — should apply for the job. at Delta.

Well, to quote an email sent to members of the association, these pilots believe management is steeped in “an unwillingness to improve work rules/quality of life.”

“It’s not that we want to get involved, but pilots at Delta will earn significantly more than pilots at American,” they commented.

Obviously they don’t want to get involved. It’s also clear that they believe — and more importantly, want young pilots to believe — that things look bad. After all, Delta pilots are likely to get a substantial pay rise.

The pilots said, “This happened even before Delta’s industry-leading pay rates took effect. This disparity was only made worse by this management insistence that all employees be wholly owned are included in the total profit sharing, which reduces the profit sharing payout to American Pilots by airlines by about 10%.

When a customer stares at all of this, they may be tempted to conclude that American pilots are just putting pressure on management to agree to a new contract.

Then again, the pilots’ emails used capital letters to exclaim: “SIGN UP DELTA NOW AS A JUST keeper.”

As any decent human being, you look to the future with some trepidation. You want your pilot to be fun and skilled.

However, this is not the first time American Airlines pilots have cast envious glances at their competitors. Less than a year ago, they were there, with a little flair, suggest customers to fly Delta or United. Their reason? These are clearly airlines with better management teams.

Probably most customers won’t care about this in the end. Price and schedule may be much more important to them. However, pilots know such emails are likely to leak because they so badly want customers to be concerned.

Those customers may only take note in the coming years as some airlines clearly become superior to others.

Oh, what am I saying? That will never happen. Not when the flying market is neatly divided between just four major airline groups.
