Undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano and challenger Danila Ramos will have extra time to show what they can do on Oct. 27.
The fight, in Orlando, Florida, will be contested under men’s rules — 12 three-minute rounds, not the 10 two-minute rounds typical of women’s boxing, Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions announced.
Not since 2007 has a women’s title bout been fought with the added two rounds and extended time, according to reports.
Serrano (45-2-1, 30 KOs) holds all four major 126-pound belts. The IBF, WBA and WBO — as well as Florida Athletic Commission — have sanctioned the bout.
The WBC, which opposes three-minute rounds for women for what it believes are safety issues, will not back the event.
“This fight is about more than some belts,” Serrano said in a statement. “We have faced a long and hard battle, united as women, to achieve the same pay, respect, and recognition in boxing.
“Together, on Friday, October 27, we will make history and prove to the world once again how incredible women’s boxing is and that we are just as tough, dynamic, and capable as any man in the ring, if not more so.
“This is a fight for women everywhere to be treated the same as their male counterparts.”
Serrano is coming off a near shutout decision over Heather Hardy in a title defense on Aug. 5.
Ramos (12-2, 1 KO) last fought on Aug. 18, when she outpointed Brenda Karen Carbajal in Buenos Aires.
