Alvaro Bautista defends Phillip Island Superpole
Superbike FIM World Championship 2022
Round 12 – Phillip Island
WorldSuper pole SBK
After a wet FP3 early on Saturday morning, it was almost completely dry at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, the venue for the final Tissot Superpole session of the 2022 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship.
When the racers started the lap, they all used slick tires as track conditions improved. The initial time wasn’t far from Friday’s completely dry race, though Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) set a respectable 1’31,712, ahead of Alex Lowes (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) ) completed his first lap to take the lead with a 1’30,609s.
Newly crowned world champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) also picked up the pace and on the second lap he clocked in at 1m39,304, which is extremely impressive considering the still wet patches. outstanding not far from the race track. At the end of the first run, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki WorldSBK Racing Team) took second place from his teammate, while German rookie Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven) took an impressive fifth.
With the second and final runs underway within the last six minutes, the court aims to improve the time, while those in the column match aim to establish the first under 90 seconds run weekend. Dissatisfied with the rest of the field, Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was sidelined for most of the session and with less than five minutes left, took sixth place. Behind him, the rather ragged looking Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) improved his time in 12th place, while the main group, led by Jonathan Rea and debutant Tetsuta Nagashima (Team HRC), Cross the line to start their last column of attack.
With two minutes left, Rea took the lead, but Bautista then took the lead in 1’29,815 seconds to claim the makeshift post. There was a disaster for Nagashima, who had a collision at Miller’s Corner, the latest collider in Turn 4. He got up and was okay but that brought the yellow flags, meaning lap time. Race will be cancelled.
The checkers came in and it was Bautista who kept his climax as the rains in the third zone seemed to be giving his opponents time. Jonathan Rea holds second place and will be keen to attack at the start of the race, while Alex Lowes comes in third.
Entering his final race as number 1, Razgatlioglu was able to take fourth but never really looked like a pillar threat, while teammate Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) ) has bolstered Yamaha’s top-five pace with fifth place and will start in the middle of the second row. It was Yamaha’s elimination in the second row as Garrett Gerloff’s distinct strategy paid off and he secured his sixth place, as he hopes to end his tenure at Yamaha with high performance at the circuit where his WorldSBK career begins in 2020.
The third row includes Philipp Oettl, with the German racer impressing in his first WorldSBK performance and claiming the best Super pole result in his 2022 rookie campaign.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) had a quiet run and was only able to finish eighth, the Ducati third in the top 10, while Xavi Vierge of Team HRC took ninth place and the result. Third Superpole in top 10 after bounce.

WorldSSP Super Extreme
The track was wet but dry as World Supersport drivers took to the track for the 15-minute Tissot Superpole at Phillip Island on Saturday afternoon.
Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing) made an early bet with a tire choice that gave him the upper hand in the first 10 minutes of the Tissot Superpole Session. With 5 minutes left on the clock, the newly crowned World SuperSport Champion was more than 4 seconds ahead of the second, leaving only two drivers on the field to pass in the 105% qualifying time limit.
The final two minutes of the session saw the drivers carry out their duties for the World Supersport Tissot Superpole final of the year. Raffaele De Rosa took the lead, but this lasted less than a few seconds before our FP1 fastest time-setter Frederico Caricasulo (Althea Racing) unexpectedly showed up to take the Ducati Panigale V2 Althea Racing’s Ducati Panigale V2 Althea Racing’s back. he’s up the column at 1:37,161.
Also on that last lap, Aruba.it. Racing – Ducati’s Nicolo Bulega crossed the line with the exact same lap time as Caricasulo, at 1:37,161. Caricasulo’s second fastest lap in the Superpole session was the deciding factor in determining the front row of the grid, with Yari Montella (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) breaking into the top three, marking the Italian’s first time starting in the front row. head.
Aegerter was a late loser, with a costly mistake coming from a seemingly untouchable World Champion in Grand Ridge Brewery’s Tissot Super Column. Aegerter now finds himself starting in 5th place on the grid, 0.220 seconds behind Caricasulo and Bulega.
Oli Bayliss didn’t have the confidence to really push through in somewhat difficult conditions and his 1.38,893 height helped him land 14th on the starting grid this afternoon.
