All 4 Audi electric SUVs earn IIHS top safety ratings
Every Audi electric SUV has received the highest Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
This safety award applies to all current Audi electric SUV models, including the Audi Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron 2023, as well as the Audi Q8 E-Tron and Q8 E-Tron Sportback 2024. The Q8 E-Tron models are an update of the E-Tron SUV and the Sportback, which also received a Top Safety Pick+ rating as the 2023 model year.
2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron
To win a Top Safety Pick+ award, vehicles must earn the highest “Good” rating in the IIHS’s updated side-impact test and have automatic emergency braking systems that score “Advanced” or “Excellent” in both the daytime and nighttime walking tests. That’s a plus for the high score in all other crash tests, as well as the above-average headlight rating needed to win the middleweight Top Safety Pick award.
Launched as 2024 models, Q8 . family brings all the good things—including safety ratings—from the previous E-Tron SUV and Sportback family, but with a wider driving range (Audi estimated 300 miles, although EPA ratings have not been posted) and somewhat improved handling. The E-Tron SUV is First EV to win the Top Safety Pick+ award in 2019.
2023 Audi Q4 E-Tron
Family Q4 geared toward practicality rather than punch, and priced lower than other high-end EVs of a similar size. Sharing VW’s MEB platform, the Q4 models are closely related to the Volkswagen ID.4, which has same top safety rating.
There’s another Audi EV, which likely won’t be assessed by the IIHS. that is E-Tron GTNot the only non-SUV model in Audi’s current EV lineup, it’s likely to be too low-weight to warrant full performance from the safety nonprofit’s tests.
