AFCON 2022 Standings: Updated tables, scores, results and highlights from the Africa Championship

The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off with a group stage that will see the pitch of 24 teams reduced to 16, and there are bound to be some surprises along the way.

Similar to the Euros, the top two teams in each of the six groups (Group AF) will advance to the Round of 16 alongside the four best third-placed teams. If two teams finish on points in the group stage, the following innings will be used to determine their ranking, according to the official rules of the game:

1. Most of the points are obtained in matches between the two teams;
2. Goal difference in all group stage matches;
3. Score the most goals in all group stage matches;
4. Draw (i.e. random draw).

If three or more teams tie on a tie at the end of the group stage, the settlement formula changes slightly:

1. Most of the points are obtained in matches between the teams involved;
2. Goal difference in matches between the teams concerned;
3. Most of the goals were scored in matches between the teams involved;
4. Goal difference in all group stage matches;
5. Score the most in all group stage matches;
6. Draw (i.e. random draw).
