SEMINOLES OF FLORIDA

The first shocking event of the 2024 college football season happened in… the first game of the 2024 college football season. Georgia Institute of Technology ousted the incumbent ACC champion and finished 10th. State of Florida, 24-21, in Dublin ABOVE Aidan Birr‘S 44 yard penalty kick as time runs out.

  • The Yellow Jackets’ win ended a 15-game losing streak to top-10 teams, a streak that stretches back to 2015, and another loss to the Seminoles.
  • Georgia Tech ran for 190 yards at 5.3 yards per attempt and did not allow a single touchdown against Florida State’s vaunted defense. Jamal Haynes ran for 75 yards on just 11 carries and scored two touchdowns.
  • Meanwhile, Florida State gained just 98 yards on 31 carries, and in DJ UiagaleleiIn their FSU debut, the Seminoles’ longest pass was just 21 yards. The Seminoles had at least one pass longer than that in all but one game last season.

Before you yell at me for not talking about the winners, let’s talk about them. Brent Key did a great job with the Yellow Jackets. They have won 10 games as underdogs since the start of 2022. Saturday, King Haynes kept things on track and didn’t throw a blocked ball after having 16 last year. While his stats didn’t blow anyone away, his play was representative of Georgia Tech as a whole: solid, disciplined and opportunistic when needed.

Okay, now let’s talk about Florida State. The Seminoles lost a lot of players from last year’s team, but they also brought in a lot of players in the transfer portal, with Uiagalelei being the most important. And just as Georgia Tech is a reflection of King, Florida State is a reflection of Uiagalelei: not very impressive. Same goes for the big-name transfers at running back and linebacker and defensive back. The transfer portal can fix a lot of things, but it can’t fix everythingShehan Jeyarajah writes.

Florida State was right to be concerned about not making the playoffs last year, and that spent the summer talking about wanting to leave ACCNow, with a chance to get revenge by advancing to the 12-team playoffs, The Seminoles were in a big hole. Will Backus notes.

  • Come back: “Florida State can’t afford another slip-up in a standings that seems rife with pitfalls. And if Saturday was any indication, this doesn’t look like a team built to win 11 straight games. … Of course, it’s never wise to make blanket statements after a game — especially a Week 0 game. Plenty of teams have had a disastrous start and turned it into a strong late-season run to the college football playoffs. … Still, it’s going to be a tough road to get anywhere near the top.”

  • As Garrett Podell notes, Dallas can bring in outside helpbut now Jerry Jones say he doesn’t want to do that and he likes the fifth pick Caelen Carson.
  • Jones also has no update ABOVE CeeDee Sheep.

Meanwhile, Steelers Team is one of two teams that has yet to announce a starting quarterback for Week 1, but the finish line is in sight. Russell Wilson started week 3 of the preseason and led a scoring drive in his only series. Justin Fields then came on and led a scoring drive, although he didn’t do so well afterwards. Mike Tomlin said an announcement would come this week. Tyler Sullivan reviewed where is everything now.

The PatriotsMeanwhile, the battle for midfield positions may have taken a turn. Jacoby Brissett injured his shoulder while pitching on Sunday night, and Drake Maye has arrived and throw a touchdown pass. We will see how both of these factors affect that issue.
