A few charts that say it all about wind and solar power
This is the 10-year productivity record for Europe’s weather-dependent “Renewables”: it is the annual electricity output divided by the nominal installed rating of the buildings “Renewable Energy”. “depending on the weather over the past decade. The data is provided by EurObservER, an organization that promotes EU-supported weather-dependent “Renewable Energy”.
The productivity of the weather-dependent “Renewables” is limited because they only gather the discontinuous and dilute energy sources, Wind and Sun. Since they are not capable of generating the large amount of excess electricity that civilization needs, they are parasitic on all other power generation technologies.
Conventional, gas, coal or nuclear power generation technologies:
- generate more energy to use for civilizations than they need to build and operate. They have a high Energy Return on Energy Invested.
- run 24/7
- can be turned on as needed to suit needs
- use small land area
- can be located near the center of demand
- Their installation uses limited materials
- they can store considerable energy on-site at low cost
- proved to be significantly cheaper than the energy they produce, even with the current high price of Gas in Europe.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) generates comparative capital and long-term costs for power generation technologies. When their weather-dependent “Renewables” costs are merged with Europe’s recorded capacity to generate the same unit of electricity for the year and against the cheapest power generation technology Gas-fired price of the United States, value for money comparison is very obvious.
This comparison predicts that the current European natural gas fuel price is 3 times higher than the US standard price for crude gas production.
Does anyone sane buy a car that costs 5 – 10 times the normal price that only runs for one day out of five days, when you never know what day it could be? And then emphasize that its technology is used to power the entire economy.
Even with the current price of Gas in Europe, the weather-dependent “Renewables” spending in Europe is still huge: ~$0.5 trillion spent investment spending and ~$1.2 trillion in overspending over the long term.
These simple calculations show that any claim that wind and solar energy is now cost competitive with conventional (gas-powered) fossil fuel production is seriously wrong. important. The figures give an outline of the financial achievements of Green activists in stopping gas extraction in Europe, which are close to the $1.2 trillion excess cost.
The size of the wasted costs for the UK’s current ‘Renewables’ fleet is around £60 billion in capital costs and ~ £0.22 trillion in the long term.
The UK performance picture is slightly improved by the installation of more Offshore Wind power.
These very basic calculations only compare the raw cost of supplying a unit of energy to the Grid as the tip of the cost iceberg, the weather-dependent “Renewable Energy” bears all the costs. Other fees and disadvantages are not presented here.
Appreciating that future “Climate Change” caused by humans burning fossil fuels is a no-brainer and not responding to it in an economically destructive way would be the best news for the world. Western world, for the Biosphere and for Humans- be kind.
