A cold, wet month ahead and possibly more until midwinter
If you like cold, cloudy, wet weather, with lots of snow in the mountains, you’ll love next month.
The latest extended forecast from the most ingenious global prediction system in the world (Central Europe) will be much wetter than normal conditions in most of the western US, with wet MUCH more than normal conditions west of the Cascades. Glad to see California getting a piece of this!
And temperatures in the western US for the next 30 days will be colder than usual (see below).
Cold and wet can only mean one thing: lots of snow. Below are the total projections for the same period.
Skiing Thanksgiving at Whistler, Baker and Crystal Mountain? That is possible.
What about the long term?
La Nina’s conditions – which are colder and wetter than usual for our region, especially after New Year’s – have intensified and the NOAA Climate Prediction Center holds La Nina midway. winter (see below).
In short, after a cold and wet spring and a warm, dry summer/early fall, a cold/wet winter can begin.
