An investigation into OceanGate’s Titan submarine explosion launched this week and it’s being excavated all kinds of problems arise in preparation for the deaths of five passengers on board in June 2023. Dr Steven Ross said during a dive in June 2023 – just days before the explosion – that the rig malfunctioned, causing the submarine passengers to “flip over” and it took an hour to get them out of the water.
The submarine pilot, OceanGate co-founder Stockton Rush, crashed into a bulkhead during the malfunction, Dr Ross said. “One passenger was hanging upside down. The other two were trying to squeeze into the bow hatch,” he said.
Ross, a former scientific adviser at OceanGate, told the inquest he was able to stay upright throughout the ordeal while some passengers were less fortunate.
