Gunny Highway Wins; Blended Citizen’s First Winner

Gunny Highway ran a patience race on September 14 at Remington Parkand that determination eventually paid off with his first win and his father’s first win, Mixed Citizen .

With Harry Hernandez in tow, Gunny Highway paced the track for much of the 7 1/2-furlong grass course, biding his time in the hope of an opportunity to attack. Fourth and with no clear path to the lead, Hernandez suddenly moved to the outside early in the stretch.

With four wide legs, Gunny Highway lost a few strides to his rivals but as he approached the finish line near a furlong, the gelding caught up with the leaders and won by two lengths in 1:37.94.

Trained by Ronnie Cravens, the win came on Gunny Highway’s second start. The gelding is the homebred of Davey De Wilkett.

This year, the stallion entered the Grand Central Stables Polo and Country Club in Haskell, Okla., for $2,000.
