Car companies will try a bold new strategy to build electric cars that people can actually afford

Lucid Motors will launch its second model, the Gravity large crossover, this year, with a starting price of around $80,000 before deliveries. But it also plans to launch more affordable models in 2026 on its midsize platform, with a starting price of around $48,000 before deliveries. Lucid expects sales of just 9,000 this year for the Air large sedan.
