Hyundai Ioniq 5 2025 upgrade adds a monster Off-Road version and Tesla charging port

Creating a sequel as good as the original is a difficult task, so fortunately when Hyundai has gone about refreshing its hit Ioniq 5it does not damage cross electric original formula wins. When Ioniq 5 first time on the market two years ago in 2022It was praised for its distinctive styling, bold interior design, and all-around usability. The 2025 update retains many of those traits while adding more battery capacity, more standard features, Tesla-style North American charging standard (NACS) port permission access to the entire Supercharger network, and frankly hideous want to get off-road trim. Although details are scarce for now, face lift could make this already attractive EV even more appealing.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be the first non-Tesla vehicle sold in the United States to feature a Tesla-style NACS charging port. This means that all Ioniq 5s starting in 2025 will have unrestricted access to all 17,000 Superchargers nationwide, while still being sold with a CCS-style charging adapter that allows them to charge at non-Tesla public chargers as well. Along with this no-hype game-changing charger access, all 2025 Ioniq 5s will be built with larger battery packs. Standard range models will gain 5 kWh for a total of 63 kWh, and extended range models will gain 6.6 kWh over current models for a total of 84 kWh. No official range estimates have been specified for the upgraded Ioniq 5, but Hyundai expects range to increase by up to 20 miles depending on trim, wheel and tire size, and drivetrain.

The new XRT gets all-terrain tires, a 0.9-inch higher ride height, cheap-looking black “digital camouflage” accents front and rear, matte black wheels, black accents, red tow hooks, and unique seat trim. Despite Hyundai’s best efforts to make the XRT look rough and ready, the raised ride height still only gives it about 7 inches of ground clearance, or less than a Honda HR-V. The digital camouflage trim front and rear looks like a cheap wrap, but at least the XRT wheels and tires look cool. While approach and departure angles are improved over the standard Ioniq 5, this crossover is still best suited for dirt or gravel roads, not serious off-road trails.

All 2025 Ioniq 5 models get updated technology and features, including standard wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, new physical controls for the seat heaters, rear wipers and washers (!), a new three-spoke steering wheel design, and more active safety features. It will be the first model built at Hyundai’s new Metaplant in Georgia, so it will be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $3,750 for buyers and a $7,500 federal tax credit for leases.

The Ioniq 5 was a compelling option right out of the gate, and the updates it receives for 2025 make it even more appealing. While the NACS charging port on the rear passenger side will cause a strain at Tesla Supercharger stations, the addition of that port negates any advantage the Musk-led company has over the Ioniq. The addition of the XRT version should appeal to a wider range of buyers, making the updated Ioniq 5 a great choice for those looking for an easy-to-live-with EV who don’t want to buy from a bigot. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but expect to see the updated Ioniq 5 go on sale later this year.
