Angelina Jolie stops singing after ex-lover ‘unkind’

Angelina Jolie may be playing one of the most iconic opera singers of all time in her new film, MariaBut that doesn’t mean she’s confident in her singing ability. While talking to Hollywood ReporterThe actress opened up about preparing to play Maria Callas in the upcoming biopic and how she had to find her singing voice again after a man she dated was “not kind” to her voice.

When asked about filming at La Scala, the famous opera house in Milan, Italy, Jolie told the magazine, “It was an out-of-body experience because I don’t sing.” She continued, “I have someone in my life who is not good with me when it comes to singing. That’s the relationship I’m in. And so, I just assumed that I couldn’t really sing.”

Jolie added, “I went to theater school, so it was weird how it affected me. I just adapted to this person’s opinion. So I had to overcome a lot of things to start singing.”

She admitted that “learning to sing and love singing” wasn’t easy, but her two sons Maddox and Pax helped her through it. “I was very, very shy going into the whole process,” Jolie explained. “My boys were there, but there was hardly anyone else there because the thing about singing opera is you have to speak loudly. God knows how many lozenges I took, and I practiced all night, all morning. I was very nervous at the beginning. I didn’t want to let people down.”

Although Jolie has not revealed the identity of the person who hurt her self-esteem, there are still some suspects, because she has been married three times before. She was first married to Hacker co-star, Jonny Lee Miller in 1996, before continue with Billy Bob Thortonto whom she was married from 2000 to 2003. Two years later, Jolie began dating Brad Pitt and they were married in 2014. The couple split in 2016 and their divorce is still ongoing.
