Although the self-aware lyrics tell us about the pain and disappointment she endures because of love, the singer ends on a somewhat hopeful note: “You know me would do it again,” she sings.
In an extended interview, Oprah Winfrey asked Adele if she’s really more advanced in the “game of love” now. (She divorced her husband Simon Konecki in 2019 and is currently in a happy new relationship with a sports agent. Rich Paul.)
“I think so, because I don’t see it as a game anymore,” explains Adele. “That’s where, ‘You’re going to hurt me so I’m going to hurt you first,’ I’m not like that anymore.”
When Winfrey asked her what she was, she really desire in life, Adele replied, “Reassurance. And stability.” She added, “But I don’t have to expect others to give me stability; I can also settle for myself. Be a solid home not blown by the storm.”
“Love Is a Game” will not be officially released until 30 will make its world premiere on Friday, but you can listen to it (and see Adele perform it at the Griffith Observatory) at Adele One Night Only, currently streaming on Paramount +. (It’s at the 1:19:42 mark.)
In the midst of the crowd’s excitement with the new song, the superstar also shared her biggest thing about making the new album: “It’s that you can’t control anything that gets bloody. So just go with it, sit with it, laugh and enjoy it all. “
