New Seats at HL7 Australia

HL7 Australia has appointed David Rowlands as its new chairman, replacing Dr Isobel Frean after three years. HL7 Australia has also appointed Dr Andy Bond to its board of directors.

Rowlands has served on the board of the Australasian Institute for Digital Health, where he is also an honorary and lifetime member. He is also certified in health informatics by the Certified Health Informatician Australasia program.

“I look forward to supporting Australia’s dynamic and growing HL7 community as it modernises Australia’s healthcare sector,” said Rowlands.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bonds, an interoperability architect at healthcare IT company Magentus, is expected to contribute his perspective on sustainable FHIR investment to the company.

According to the press release, Dr Frean will remain a non-executive director of the HL7 Australia board.


ADHA appoints nursing advisor

The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) has appointed Karen Booth as its first chief clinical adviser in nursing.

“She has been a key contributor to the advancement of digital health in nursing and plays a key role in the future of Australia’s healthcare system as a member of the Medicare Enhancement Taskforce,” said Amanda Cattermole, CEO of ADHA, in a statement about Booth.

“I am dedicated to improving health outcomes for Australians, particularly in primary and preventative health care settings. Nurses play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality, person-centred care and I know first-hand how digital health technologies and capabilities can improve their skills, knowledge and practice,” Booth said.

She will begin her role on September 30.

Booth’s appointment comes after Dr Amandeep Hansra was appointed as the agency’s director. Chief Clinical Advisor for Medicine.


Launching guidelines for implementing IT for home care of the elderly

The Australian non-profit National Institute on Aging recently published guidance for home aged care providers to deliver technology-enabled services.

Developed in partnership with home care provider Silverchain, the Aged Home Care Technology Enablement Framework provides a step-by-step guide to implementing digital technology as part of delivering aged home care.

The framework – said to be the first of its kind in the country – also includes information on reducing barriers to technology implementation and a checklist of considerations when planning for implementation.

The development of this project was supported by the Australian Federal Government’s Aged Care Research and Industry Innovation grant program.


Five Faces Announces Technology Integration with Indonesian Partner

Healthcare IT provider Five Faces has partnered to integrate technology with Privy, an Indonesian digital signature and identity solutions provider.
