AKT Motos is One of the biggest motorcycle brands you’ve probably never heard of. Based in Colombia, the company was founded 20 years ago by a group of entrepreneurs who wanted to provide the local market with practical and affordable bikes. They’ve since become one of the country’s most popular brands, with a product range that includes everything from scooters to tuk-tuks (three-wheeled motorized rickshaws, in case you didn’t know).

The AKT NKD 125 falls somewhere in the middle of the pack; a 124cc single-cylinder commuter with mid-range looks and a whopping 10.34 horsepower. It’s AKT’s best-seller—so much so that they commissioned Colombian aftermarket parts specialist FP to give it a 20th anniversary makeover.

FP’s mission was to inject some neo-classical energy into the humble NKD 125. They did a great job—turning the active commuter into a pocket bike. street monitoringTheir recipe includes a few individual parts, some off-the-shelf parts from their extensive product catalog, and a little bit of clever fabrication.

All that remains of the OEM NKD bodywork is the fuel tank—although it looks completely different from the other redesigned parts on the bike.

Moving from the tank to the rear, FP trimmed the subframe before fabricating a bolt-on rear end. The new structure supports a handcrafted carbon fibre tail unit topped with a diamond-stitched seat. Modelled after a classic flat track style, the arrangement includes integrated number plates, with a cutout on the right side to accommodate a pod filter.

A matching nacelle carbon fiber headlight adorns the fork, with twin LEDs lighting the way. Custom side panels flank the front of the fuel tank, while a custom tank guard does duty down below.

Next, FP swapped out the NKD rims for a pair of 17-inch cross-spoke Murelli rims, wrapped in Dunlop Moto3 slicks. The front brakes were upgraded with larger discs, along with custom brackets to move the calipers. A carbon fiber fender rounds out the front end.

An aftermarket shock holds up the rear, while a custom chain guard runs along the swingarm. A brand new gold chain stands out against the mostly black finish.

FP didn’t touch the NKD’s lump, but they did upgrade the carbs and install new shiny red NGK spark plug wires. A custom exhaust system amplifies the little single’s voice. The finishing touches include tapered handlebars on aftermarket risers, along with new grips, controls, and mirrors.

Opting for a timeless monochrome finish, FP has painted the tank a dark silver tone to complement the plethora of black and carbon fiber details. Black and chrome NKD badges add a touch of flair.

Better equipped than most bikes costing ten times as much, FP’s custom AKT NKD 125 is a fitting way to celebrate AKT’s 20th birthday. It also shows how malleable the NKD is as a custom platform—so hopefully we’ll see more bikes like this soon.
