2025 MG ZS revealed: When will Toyota and Hyundai’s hybrid rival arrive in Australia?

New 2025 MG ZS has been revealed, previewing the company’s first hybrid model.

The product will be available in Australia in 2025, following the launch of a petrol-only model in late 2024.

Second generation of MG ZS replacing an older but popular SUV that has been in production since 2017 and was upgraded in 2020 with ZST – will also be replaced by the upcoming model.

It has a new look both inside and out, very similar to other recent MG cars like the new High school.

So far, only the ZS Hybrid+ version has been launched, allowing MG to compete with electrified rivals in the compact SUV market such as Hyundai Kona, GWM Haval JolionAnd Toyota Corolla Cross.

Under the bonnet is a 75kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, combined with an electric motor that produces 100kW of power and 250Nm of torque, bringing the total output to 144kW.

Previous Australian government approval documents suggest the combination will produce 158kW, while the same powertrain could produce 155kW in a smaller, lighter version. Machine gun 3 backdoor.

Like the MG 3, the new ZS Hybrid+ drives the front wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission, with the electric motor powered by a 1.83kWh battery pack.

Although MG hasn’t revealed it yet, Australian approval documents also show a pair of non-hybrid engines will be available, including both naturally aspirated and turbocharged varieties.

These non-electric powertrains are expected to use continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs) and remain front-wheel drive.

Although MG has yet to reveal it, petrol-powered ZS versions will be the first to go on sale in Australia before the end of the year, while a Hybrid+ version and a replacement for the current electric ZS EV will follow in 2025.

In the UK, MG has confirmed the ZS will come as standard with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen (up from 10.1 inches in the old model) featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation.

The analog gauges have been replaced by a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster located behind a square three-spoke steering wheel.

Keyless entry, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera are also standard on the base SE trim, as are 17-inch wheels.

The Trophy version for UK buyers will come with 18-inch wheels, a surround-view camera, six-way heated and electrically adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel and faux leather upholstery.

MG has beefed up its safety suite, with the SUV now equipped with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) – a mandatory requirement for all new cars in Australian showrooms by March 2025 – as well as blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and rear cross traffic alert.

In the UK, the entry-level MG ZS Hybrid+ SE starts at £21,995 ($42,760), while the top-of-the-line Trophy model costs £24,495 ($47,620).

Compared to the current £20,890 ($40,615) ZS Excite turbo – the closest equivalent to the ZST Excite in Australia – the price of the new hybrid is around five per cent higher.

With a similar percentage increase applied to the ZST Excite locally – as there are no direct competitors to the ZS – we can expect the new Hybrid+ to sell for under $35,000.

As there are no UK prices for the petrol-only ZS model, it’s unclear how much more domestic buyers will have to pay, although prices will certainly increase due to the increased equipment levels.
