While we haven’t received any official specifications yet, previous filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have included approval for a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model rated at 160kW, as well as a twin-motor flagship model rated at 310kW.

This would put the car on par with the 320kW MG 4 XPower, although still short of the 390kW flagship Seal Performance sedan – despite both BYD models being powered by the e-Platform 3.0 Evo electric vehicle (EV) architecture.

From the photos posted online, it looks like the Seal 06 GT won’t feature the same aggressive bodywork as the Ocean-M concept, although the overall design is still quite similar to the auto show special edition.

At 4630mm long on a 2820mm wheelbase, the Seal 06 GT is 343mm longer bumper to bumper but just 115mm longer axle to axle than the MG 4 XPower, while being 170mm shorter in length than the Seal sedan.

Previous spy images The interior of the Seal 06 GT prototype shows that the car will feature a similar cabin design to what we recently saw on the facelifted Seal, with a freestanding infotainment screen next to the digital instrument cluster.

As it’s yet to be revealed, BYD has yet to confirm whether the Seal 06 GT will come to Australia, however the car’s price will be very attractive in the domestic market.

When BYD unveiled the Ocean-M concept car, it said the production version could cost between 150,000 and 200,000 yuan – the equivalent of AU$30,980 to AU$41,300.

To put that into perspective, the base BYD Seal sedan starts at 175,800 yuan ($36,310) in China and $49,888 before on-road costs in Australia, meaning the Seal 06 GT could cost under $45,000.

More details about the BYD Seal 06 GT will be revealed later this week.
