The ‘YOLO’ effect boosts Lamborghini sales

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann attributes the brand’s recent sales success to spontaneous car buying habits in the wake of the COVID pandemic.

The Italian supercar maker recorded global sales of more than 10,000 units for the first time in 2023 and is on track to do even better this year with 5,558 units sold in the first half of 2024.

Australian sales data reflects this – Lamborghini sold 78 cars in Australia in the first six months of this year, nearly double the 43 it sold in the first half of 2023.

The increase also coincided with the introduction of two new models, Urus SE plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and halo Revuelto The supercar is also equipped with a PHEV engine.

However, the Lamborghini boss has found that buyers are willing to spend more on the precious metal after the world-changing COVID pandemic.

“Since COVID ended, we have had the ‘YOLO’ effect – you only live once – despite the global crisis here, or the crisis here and there, in the market, geopolitics changing, we are still going strong, and people still want to buy those cars, and we have very long waiting times,” said Winkelmann. “Let’s pray, so far everything is fine, this year is going perfectly [as] we had another record in the first six months of 2024, so if things continue like this, then [full] 2024 will be a very good year for Lamborghini.”
