Politicians aren’t the only ones making speeches tonight.

Deja Foxx, one of many over 200 content creators endorsed at the Democratic National Convention, also addressed the crowd Monday night. She described her childhood — being raised by a single mother, growing up in public housing and going to Planned Parenthood for health care.

“Thanks to policies that lift people up, I walked through the doors of my dream school as a first-generation college student,” she said. “People my age are making big decisions about their lives, and we deserve a president who supports us.”

In an interview with NPR after his speech, Foxx argued that the DNC’s decision to welcome hundreds of content creators sent a powerful message.

“It signals to young people that there is a president who will listen to them, who will respond to them, and who has young people in the room,” she said, adding that having the opportunity to have a voice as a creative person means more.

“This is a reminder that the future of politics and political figures will be different for Generation Z.”
